Peter Obi: Nigeria’s Most Preferred Candidate to Become President in 2023

Former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has been tipped as the most popular candidate for the 2023 election among 14 others. An independent poll’s findings have been made public.

The poll was created in collaboration with NexTier, a multi-competency consulting firm, and Data-Tier, a data analytics and digital communications firm.

The sample group was made up of voting-age Nigerians in Nigeria and the Diaspora, with respondents picked at random from each of the country’s six geographic zones, according to the poll’s organizers.

According to Nextier and DataTier, the purpose of the poll was to “measure Nigerians’ options for a presidential candidate; to identify the problems Nigerians want the next government to address as quickly as feasible; and to decode to what extent ethnic gender prejudices might effect the next election.”

A total of fifteen main presidential contenders from the country’s two major political parties participated in the poll.

The delegation includes Peter Obi, Yemi Osinbajo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, Nyesom Wike, Godwin Emefiele, Rotimi Amaechi, and Kayode Fayemi.

Other possibilities include Anyim Pius Anyim, Ogbonnaya Onu, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, Goodluck Jonathan, and Abubakar Malami.

Finally, nearly half of those polled (46.04 percent) chose Peter Obi as their preferred presidential candidate for 2023.

With 27.84 percent of the vote, incumbent Vice President Yemi Osinbajo came in second, followed by Ahmed Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State governor and APC national chairman (APC).

None of the other contenders garnered more than 7% of the vote, according to the poll’s findings.

Obi is one of the PDP’s primary presidential contenders, having campaigned as a running mate for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.

Around 16 more individuals are fighting for the party’s nomination. The primary election will take place on May 28 and 29.

Atiku Abubakar; Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State; Nwachukwu Anakwenze, a US-based medical doctor; Dele Momodu, a newspaper publisher; Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State; Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, an investment banker and economist; Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State; Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom State; Anyim Pius.

Governors Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Orji Kalu of Abia State, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, and vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, among others, have all expressed interest in clinching the APC presidential ticket.

Knowledge (17.89 percent), ability to solve problems (17.39 percent), and capability (17.39 percent) are the most sought qualities in the future president, according to the study (16.47 percent).

According to the poll, respondents’ top three vice presidential choices are Aminu Tambuwal (28.05 percent), Musa Kwankwaso (19.27 percent), and Peter Obi (16.27 percent).

None of the remaining candidates received more than 7% of the vote.

According to the poll’s organizers, the purpose was to determine who was the most popular candidate among the many who have expressed interest in running for president.

They also want to discover what Nigerians believe their most pressing development issue is.

According to the study, the poll responses were skewed toward Nigeria’s southern regions, with nearly half of the respondents (43.04 percent) being from the South East region and more than one in four (27.62 percent) hailing from the South West.

The South-South region contributed 13.06 percent of the overall response.

It went on to indicate that the North East had the lowest percentage (3%) and the North West had the highest (6%). The North Central region accounted for only 8% of all responses.
